What is actually included in NPN classes?
I think this post is way overdue!
New Parent Network was formed after years as a nurse in the NICU, witnessing parents who were not sufficiently prepared for childbirth and newborns! (and don’t be upset- I was not sufficiently prepared for childbirth and newborns either!) Our classes aim to provide you with the power of education, and comprehensive late pregnancy, childbirth, newborn and 4th trimester information to ensure you’re READY!
Our classes have 3 different formats: private classes in your home or a neutral location, a one weekend day 7-hour intensive, and a monthly group structured as four weeks of a 2-hour class.
Our classes all teach the same information and include comprehensive childbirth education (changes to your body in late pregnancy, early labor signs, labor and delivery, information about what happens at the hospital, different types of deliveries, postpartum recovery and all the Q&A you could want!) and newborn care education (bathing, changing diapers, safe sleep, when to call the pediatrician, what is normal for a newborn, how much babies eat, breastfeeding help and information, dressing and again- all the Q&A you could think of!) All of our classes are taught by nurses currently working in Labor and Delivery and NICU; who are also moms!
Our intensive classes are all held in special, comfortable environments with coffee, tea and water provided, and our intensives include lunch. Our goal is always to make you most prepared for everything there is to come!
The biggest benefit New Parent Network offers is that our support and education don't stop at the end of class. We encourage all of our clients to remember this: "Don't Google, just text us!". We have a monthly membership postpartum staffed by nurses who are also moms, to answer any question you may have. Home visits, phone calls and video calls are also available to help you really love that newborn period and be prepared for everything. More than anything we really want you to trust us! Call us if you have an unexpected NICU stay. Contact us if you are scared during labor and need calm support. Come to us with the embarrassing questions you want to google in the dark of night, or the things you text your friend saying “this is so stupid/embarrassing/silly but…”! We love all these questions and want more than anything for you to leave feeling supported, welcomed and really loved as a new parent.
